My biggest concern was the crack along the
portside aft hull that Jay
told me about when we first spoke on Saturday morning. He said it
occurred from a misplacement of a boat stand, that he thought it was
only in the gelcoat. It's ugly, but if it's just surface-cosmetic
I shouldn't think it'd be a major problem. |
|
Closer inspection seemed to indicate he was correct:
No structural damage; just to the gelcoat. |
|
From inside the port cabin lazerette above, there was no
indication of structural damage to the fiberglass, but I believe that's
just an inner liner. |

Ah geez, it's still got the old single-bolt bow-eye and
no stem-reinforcement kit, which means I'd have to get into that tiny
space in the bow again to install both new. I recall that being a
contortionist's wrestling match with no room to move. There's one
project I'd hate to do again, but would have to. |
|
But look at that fin keel -- what this exercise is all
about . . . |
|
If I decide to take this plunge, it'll all be due to this
one feature! |
|
Zöe has a full stern pulpit and swim ladder, so nothing
further needs to be done there. I'm not sure I wouldn't prefer
swapping over to my kick-up rudder though -- but if I buy this boat and
decide to, that's no big thing to accomplish. Its lifelines from
the pulpit to the aft-most stanchions should work fine even if I change
the stanchions and new lifelines. |
|
The motor mount might need work; it definitely needs a
new board -- which I just happen to have. I bought a new plastic
one from Catalina Direct last spring but never got around to mounting
it, so it's sitting here waiting to be used. There is no backing
inside the transom for the motor mount: I'd definitely need to add
one. Depending on the hole alignment, it might be possible to just
swap Chip Ahoy's OMC mount over, but I doubt it without a lot of
addition work. |
|
I wouldn't have to wrestle with installing a new swim
ladder, but I would absolutely install new transom scuppers were I to
buy this boat. I've seen the
boat. It's pretty much what I'd expected. I've a few things
still to find out before making a decision, and think about whether or
not it's worth the effort and money. . . |
