The never-ending project to fill my hole in
the ocean while bailing it out
Wally Riddle's Tarp-Cover Frame
Wally's storing "Carpe Diem" in my
yard alongside Chip Ahoy this winter. I came out one afternoon
after he'd been working on it and found he'd installed a frame over
which his tarp will go -- the skeleton. I thought his idea was
unique enough to consider for Chip Ahoy, and to add to this website for
others to consider. He's accomplished this with simple PVC pipes,
nothing cemented so he can easily disassemble it in the spring and store
it for the summer.
Preparing for last winter, I used
ropes over the mast and
tied off to the lifelines. It was an improvement over the previous
year, but still the weight of heavy snowfall pocketed at the lifelines
and I'd have to wade out after each storm to empty them.
If I've got the time before covering
Chip Ahoy, I hope to duplicate this arrangement. With
my new stern pulpit and
lifelines all around, I may even extend it aft, or at least add another
segment over the cockpit. (Oct. 20, 2005)
