With the new For Sale sign ready to put out
front yesterday, I went into Chip Ahoy's cabin to remove more of the
stuff I'd just loaded last week, decided to open the forward hatch for
some air circulation. When I swung it open it felt strange, wobbly.
Inspection revealed one of the butt hinges had broken
— and I thought I was done with Chip Ahoy projects! So it was off to West Marine, one more time. The replacement butt
hinges set me back another $40 — putting my
total out-of-pocket cost for Chip Ahoy officially over $40K ($40,
026.26).
Replacing one hinge to me meant replacing
both. (If one was bad the other couldn't be far behind.) Besides,
replacing a butt hinge requires removing the forward hatch entirely, so
I might as well replace both anyway, especially since they come two to a
package. Fortunately I had all the other materials required for the
project. The job today took four or five more hours
— add that to the thousands that preceded
it.
Once I got the hatch reinstalled, I
launched the For Sale sign at the end of my driveway/lot
— as vehicle and foot traffic poured by
heading down the hill to the town dock for the big summer holiday
weekend on the water and the street curbs filled up with boaters' parked
vehicles. The sale is on! (Jul. 3, 2015) |
